Oklahoma ABLE Tech: Device Loan: Device Details for Obi

Obi

Device Description

Obi is a revolutionary eating device for individuals with upper extremity strength and mobility limitations. Obi is intended to increase the diner's independence and confidence by providing choice among four compartments. The user operates the Accessibility Switches to choose among the bowls and command food delivery. When food is delivered, the user moves their head to remove food from the spoon. Almost any food can work with Obi as long as it is prepared correctly! Obi recommends that solid foods be between the size of a pea and grape to ensure that Obi can adequately pick the food up with the spoon.  Obi is intended for indoor, intermittent use of up to one hour per meal. This device involves both a patient (user) and a caregiver. The caregiver prepares food, positions the user and device for optimal use, determines the appropriate Accessibility Switches, powers on the device, teaches the right food delivery location in front of the user's mouth, monitors use, and cleans or disinfects the device.
