Device Description
NexStride Cueing Device is a portable mobility aid designed to improve walking by providing external sensory cues. This device functions as assistive technology by delivering visual and auditory signals that help guide movement, support coordination, and improve gait patterns.
The NexStride can support individuals who experience difficulty initiating or maintaining walking patterns, including individuals with neurological or mobility differences such as Parkinson’s disease, stroke recovery, or balance challenges. It is commonly used with existing walking aids and may help increase independence, confidence, and safety during movement.
The device uses a dual-cueing system to support walking. A built-in metronome produces a rhythmic auditory signal that helps regulate walking pace and timing. At the same time, a projected laser line creates a clear visual target on the ground, guiding where to step. These cues engage different pathways in the brain, helping the user initiate movement and maintain a consistent stride.
The visual laser line can support improved step length and alignment by providing a concrete target, while the auditory rhythm helps maintain a steady walking cadence. Together, these cues may assist with smoother, more coordinated movement and can help reduce disruptions such as irregular stepping patterns.
The NexStride is designed to attach securely to common mobility devices such as canes, walkers, rollators, or trekking poles, allowing it to integrate into existing supports. It can be activated as needed, and the visual and auditory cues can be used individually or together depending on user preference.
The unit is compact and lightweight, measuring approximately 4.2 by 2 by 1.5 inches and weighing about 6 ounces, making it easy to transport and use in different environments. It operates on a rechargeable battery that provides approximately six to eight hours of continuous use.
